Agriculture in Social Media

Standard

Since my educational background is in agriculture, I compiled an interesting, yet short, list of ten agricultural related sites in social media today. I am beginning to understand the grave importance of communication in agriculture and I hope these sites bring some interest and knowledge to readers about the future of agriculture. I am always anxious to read opinions and thoughts of others related to each of these sources.

“When, in some obscure country town, the farmers come together to a special town-meeting, to express their opinion on some subject which is vexing the land, that, I think, is the true Congress, and the most respectable one that is ever assembled in the United States

Blogs

Ag Wired

This is dedicated to sharing news in agriculture to the readers. It never hurts to have one more source for agricultural awareness!

Farmer Bloggers

I find this blog intriguing simply because it is set up similar to a newspaper. The goals of this blog are similar to Ag Wired in that they hope to convey new stories related to farming and ag.

Fertile Soil Solutions

While I don’t take a personal interest in soils (unless it’s small-scale gardening), I think this may be a useful blog to those that do. To improve next year’s crop, check here for advice and information!

Texas Agriculture Talks is a forum of ideas and opinions covering all aspects of Texas agriculture from the perspectives of two veteran agricultural journalists on behalf of the Texas Farm Bureau. Gene Hall and Mike Barnett discuss interesting topics and agricultural issues for agricultural producers and consumers.

United States Department of Agriculture

Much like the Texas Department of Agriculture updates the blog, the USDA also maintains a blog for agriculturalists. However, the primary purpose for this blog is broadened to serve the needs, answer questions, and discuss agricultural policies concerning the nation.

Facebook

Farmers Page

This is related to one of the blogs I discovered, but if you are a Facebook guru, you may appreciate this link more. This page is dedicated to farmers in the world that share an interest in agriculture.

Twitter

Dept. of Agriculture‏@USDA

Stay up to date with the latest news, events and info from the U.S. Department of Agriculture – and live tweeting, too! They also connect back to their website for other information related to agriculture.

TTU CASNR@TTUCASNR

Texas Tech University College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources–Where we come from, workin’ hard is in the genes. As an alumnus I am proud to share the social media that TTU offers in relations to agriculture. Be on the lookout for Fun Fact Fridays!

YouTube

The Real Farmville

Most involved with Facebook may be familiar with the game Farmville. This video is a play on the game and gives a speedy reference as to what agriculture is really about. I would have liked to use this as a quick introduction to an ag class:)

The Future of Agricultural Technology

I find these videos interesting. I believe the more our agriculturalists know about updating technology the better!

“Agriculture is our wisest pursuit, because it will in the end contribute most to real wealth, good morals, and happiness.”

– Letter from Thomas Jefferson to George Washington (1787)
